An attempt to ‘hear’ snails, Sewon FoodLab hopes to translate snails’ daily living and feeding into audible sounds to encourage other unconventional forms of communication with other non-humans and humans. The snail mediates between being an overlooked alien pest and an embodied symphony, thus, relocating itself in an arbitrary zone to contest humanness. This installation hopes to emphasize the peculiar characteristic of an invasive alien snail which have been largely portrayed as “invasive”, “disastrous’, “garden pest” or otherwise, unnoticed. This work is the second version of Bekicot (2014) by Agus Tri Budiarto, Cindy Lin and Lintang Radittya.
